Website Speed Test for Small Business

Test your website loading speed on mobile. Get your performance score and Core Web Vitals with specific suggestions to speed things up.

Why Website Speed Matters for Small Businesses

A slow website costs you customers. Research shows 53% of mobile visitors leave a page if it takes longer than 3 seconds to load. For small businesses, every lost visitor is a missed opportunity for a sale, a booking, or a phone call.

Google also uses page speed as a ranking factor. Faster websites rank higher in search results. This means a slow site hurts you twice: visitors leave before converting, and fewer visitors find you in the first place.

Understanding Core Web Vitals

Core Web Vitals are three specific metrics Google uses to measure user experience:

  • Largest Contentful Paint (LCP) - How long until the main content is visible. Aim for under 2.5 seconds.
  • Cumulative Layout Shift (CLS) - How much the page layout moves around while loading. Lower is better. Aim for under 0.1.
  • Total Blocking Time (TBT) - How long the page is frozen and unresponsive. Aim for under 200 milliseconds.

Common Speed Problems and Fixes

The most common speed killers for small business websites are unoptimized images, too many plugins or scripts, and slow hosting. Compress your images before uploading them. Remove plugins you do not use. Consider upgrading your hosting plan if your site consistently scores below 50.

Large hero images and background videos look great but slow your site down. Use modern image formats like WebP. Lazy load images below the fold so they load only when visitors scroll down to them.

Page speed is one factor in your overall online presence. Your Google reviews, local SEO, social media activity, and website security all work together to bring in customers. Run a free MyBizGrade audit to see how you score across every category.
